Applications and Content Providers to Support hiptop Development Platform
PALO ALTO, Calif. (August 6, 2002) — Danger, Inc. today announced the first third-party applications and content to support the Hiptop
TM Development Platform. This platform enables third-party application developers to use standard development tools to create differentiated applications and content for use on Hiptop
TM enabled devices. The Hiptop Development Platform includes an integrated download management system that provides for the vending of applications and content from wireless carriers to their customer base. Among the first providers of applications and content will be UIEvolution, nGame, Upoc, ActiveBuddy, Pumatech and SEVEN.
Danger provides a complete solution for mobile services. The Hiptop Wireless Solution includes a device design that can be private labeled by wireless operators, a platform for the development of third-party applications, and a back-end software framework that supports the delivery of data services. The resulting solution will enable wireless operators to deliver voice, Web, messaging and entertainment services on a fun, all-in-one device.
"A key part of Danger's business is to enable third-party developers to easily and profitably develop and distribute applications and content to users of Hiptop enabled devices," said Andy Rubin, Danger's president and chief executive officer. "A compelling set of applications and content developers now plan to support the Hiptop Development Platform. With the launch of our Hiptop developer's program later this year, Danger will open up this opportunity to additional developers who can add to the Hiptop functionality with applications and content that continue to enrich the users' experience."
Entertainment and Community Building The first entertainment applications developed for the Hiptop Development Platform include games from UIEvolution and nGame. UIEvolution's development tools and client software will be used to deliver games to the T-Mobile Sidekick. nGame, a mobile Java
TM entertainment content publisher and technology provider with compelling community-focused entertainment content for connected devices, also plans to make its content and applications available through the Hiptop Wireless Solution. Upoc will deliver entertainment and community building content for the Hiptop Wireless Solution. Upoc's service provides users of mobile devices with timely information on entertainment topics, and facilitates community building among these users.
Extending Instant Messaging Interactive agents, also known as "bots," created with ActiveBuddy's BuddyScript technology will be available over instant messaging applications on Hiptop enabled devices. These ActiveBuddy-powered agents interact with instant messaging users from the desktop to their Hiptop enabled devices, providing content, entertainment, and services in a conversational, personalized way.
Synchronization with a User's Desktop Computer Pumatech, a leader in synchronization technology, has signed an agreement with Danger that will enable users of Hiptop enabled devices to synchronize personal information with desktop applications such as Microsoft Outlook.
